About the Opportunity
The Porter position plays an important role in supporting hospital operations by safely transporting and escorting patients, equipment, files and other related items between hospital departments. The successful candidate will help ensure patients are assisted with care, dignity and confidentiality while following hospital procedures.
Requirements
Applicants must have:
Education
- Grade 10 qualification.
Experience
- Client service experience or experience dealing with the public.
- Healthcare experience, such as care work, will be an advantage.
Skills and Knowledge
Applicants should have:
- Valid licence with PDP.
- English proficiency (reading, speaking and writing).
- Knowledge of patient rights.
- Knowledge of kinetic handling principles.
- Understanding of medico-legal risks.
- Knowledge of two-way radio systems.
- Computer literacy (Microsoft Office).
- Knowledge of emergency evacuation plans.
- Knowledge of administrative tasks.
- Understanding of Health and Safety Act regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will assist with:
Patient Transport and Support
- Transporting and escorting patients safely to required locations.
- Supporting patient movement between hospital departments.
- Maintaining patient dignity and confidentiality.
Hospital Operations
- Transporting equipment, files and related items.
- Assisting with emergency evacuations when required.
- Performing driver duties when requested according to hospital guidelines.
Patient Care Standards
- Protecting patient rights and confidentiality.

- Supporting safe and efficient healthcare delivery.
