Role Overview
The Ramp Agent / Baggage Handler plays an important role in ensuring smooth aircraft operations. The position involves assisting with aircraft arrivals and departures, handling baggage and cargo, preparing equipment and ensuring that all activities are completed safely and according to aviation procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
Aircraft Ground Support
- Assisting with aircraft arrivals and departures.
- Supporting aircraft turnaround activities.
- Ensuring baggage, cargo and mail are handled correctly.
- Assisting with loading and unloading operations.
- Checking aircraft holds before loading.
- Completing required loading and turnaround documentation.
Baggage and Cargo Handling
- Loading and unloading passenger baggage.
- Handling cargo and other aircraft-related items safely.
- Ensuring baggage and cargo are moved according to company procedures.
- Preventing damage to customer property and company equipment.
Safety and Compliance
- Following CemAir safety policies and operational procedures.
- Wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Using ground equipment correctly and safely.
- Maintaining a clean and safe working area around aircraft and equipment.
Teamwork and Communication
The role requires working closely with:
- Passenger Services teams.
- Cabin Crew.
- Pilots.
- Flight Operations teams.
Candidates must be able to communicate clearly, follow instructions and report any operational concerns promptly.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- South African citizenship.
- Valid driver’s licence.
- Clear criminal record.
- Must be based in Richards Bay.
- Willingness to work shifts and overtime when required.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to perform physical duties in an airport environment.
Knowledge of aviation regulations will be an added advantage.
