Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 10 or equivalent qualification / ABET Level 4
  • Ability to read and write
  • 0–2 years’ porter experience in a health facility/environment will be advantageous
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work productively
  • Ability to work shifts and under pressure
  • Ability to work as part of a team

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Transport patients from registration areas to different clinical departments
  • Transport deceased patients from wards to the mortuary
  • Assist with offloading patients from ambulances and private vehicles onto stretchers or wheelchairs
  • Clean stretchers and wheelchairs after every use
  • Complete ambulance forms and record patient information in porter registers
  • Ensure patient contact details are accurately recorded
  • Maintain availability and readiness of patient trolleys and wheelchairs
  • Remain available to assist different hospital departments when required
  • Treat patients with dignity and respect at all times
  • Ensure clean linen is available and safely stored in the Porters Department
  • Sort soiled linen daily
