Minimum Requirements
- Grade 10 or equivalent qualification / ABET Level 4
- Ability to read and write
- 0–2 years’ porter experience in a health facility/environment will be advantageous
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Good interpersonal skills
- Ability to work productively
- Ability to work shifts and under pressure
- Ability to work as part of a team
Duties and Responsibilities
- Transport patients from registration areas to different clinical departments
- Transport deceased patients from wards to the mortuary
- Assist with offloading patients from ambulances and private vehicles onto stretchers or wheelchairs
- Clean stretchers and wheelchairs after every use
- Complete ambulance forms and record patient information in porter registers
- Ensure patient contact details are accurately recorded
- Maintain availability and readiness of patient trolleys and wheelchairs
- Remain available to assist different hospital departments when required
- Treat patients with dignity and respect at all times
- Ensure clean linen is available and safely stored in the Porters Department
- Sort soiled linen daily
