Minimum Requirements
- Grade 10 with 10 years’ experience in Food Service OR
- Grade 12 certificate with 4 years’ relevant experience in a Food Service Unit
- Exposure to Provincial Hospital Food Service Units will be advantageous
- Qualification in Food Service will be advantageous
- Knowledge of human nutrition, hygiene and safety procedures
- Knowledge of food production processes and nutrition services
- Knowledge of food service equipment, including operation and care
- Good reading, writing and communication skills
- Numerical skills, including basic calculations and measurements
- Ability to work shifts and public holidays
- Ability to solve problems and work under pressure
Duties and Responsibilities
- Monitor meal preparation and pre-preparation processes
- Supervise general cleaning of kitchen areas
- Receive food products and chemicals from suppliers
- Ensure proper storage and issuing of food supplies according to procedures
- Complete stock and consumption documentation
- Monitor portion control according to prescribed recipes
- Manage orders, storage areas and stock control processes
- Ensure food service equipment is maintained and faults are reported
- Ensure storage areas are clean, secure and locked
- Update and maintain inventory reports and stock controls
- Assist with inventory counting
- Attend staff training and development programmes
- Conduct PMDS assessments
- Perform administrative duties related to the post
- Ensure compliance with food service policies and procedures
- Handle conflicts and maintain workplace standards
- Deliver quality service to patients and staff
