The Gauteng Department of Health is inviting applications for 4 Food Service Aid positions within the Human Nutrition Directorate at Tambo Memorial Hospital. The successful candidates will assist with the preparation, handling and distribution of meals to patients while maintaining required hygiene, safety and food service standards.

Requirements

  • Minimum Grade 10 or equivalent qualification
  • Ability to read and write
  • Willingness to work shifts on a rotational basis
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships within a team
  • One year of public service experience will be an added advantage

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidates will perform general duties related to Food Service as delegated by the Food Service Supervisor.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assist with the pre-preparation of food
  • Assist with the preparation of food
  • Dish up meals for patients
  • Apply appropriate hygiene and safety measures
  • Weigh ingredients for food production purposes
  • Transport breakfast, lunch and supper from the Food Service area to patients in the wards
  • Ensure effective maintenance of food service equipment and trolleys
  • Check the accuracy of packed meals and snacks placed into packed food trolleys
  • Sign the appropriate forms after checking packed meals and snacks
  • Perform additional lawful tasks issued by the Food Service Supervisor or Manager

Candidates with foreign qualifications will be required to provide an evaluation certificate from the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).

The Department will conduct Personnel Suitability Checks and verification checks. Candidates may also be subjected to medical surveillance in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Act 5 of 1993.
