Requirements

  • ABET Level 3 / Grade 9 or equivalent qualification
  • No experience required
  • Food service industry exposure will be an advantage
  • Basic numeracy and literacy skills

  • Basic knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices
  • Understanding of Batho Pele principles
  • Willingness to work shifts, weekends and public holidays

Main Duties

  • Assist with food storage, preparation, cooking and serving
  • Prepare meals for patients on normal and special diets
  • Assist with therapeutic diet preparation and snacks
  • Dish up meals according to portion control requirements
  • Pack food onto delivery trolleys for wards
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the food service unit
  • Clean floors, utensils and equipment
  • Assist with waste segregation and sanitation
  • Wear appropriate uniform and protective clothing
  • Operate and care for food service equipment
  • Report faulty equipment and workplace risks
  • Rotate between food service areas and attend training
  • Follow infection control procedures and patient safety requirements
